Enforce tenants' right to notice before landlords enter rented homes
Landlords and student accommodation providers often treat maintenance requests as permission to enter without notice. This undermines tenants’ privacy and quiet enjoyment and can distress vulnerable or disabled tenants. Government should clarify and enforce notice rights.
Tenants should be able to rely on clear privacy and notice protections in their homes. In practice, many landlords and accommodation providers claim that submitting a maintenance request allows entry without further notice. This creates uncertainty about tenants’ rights and weakens the principle of quiet enjoyment. Clearer rules and enforcement would protect tenants, particularly vulnerable or disabled people and those living alone.

We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. There are already laws that mean notice must be given to tenants before a landlord or contractor enters a property, which are included the Housing Act 1988. We are not sure what is meant by clearer rules or enforcement.
