Cut alcohol duty and VAT for pubs and restaurants & consider new bank holiday
Reduce alcohol duty and VAT for drinks and food sold in pubs, bars and restaurants. Consider introducing a national “Pub Day” bank holiday to support local pubs and hospitality businesses and help revive struggling town centres.
Pubs are a vital part of British culture and local communities but thousands have closed in recent decades due to high taxes, rising costs and competition from cheap supermarket alcohol. The hospitality sector employs millions and contributes billions to the UK economy. We believe lowering alcohol duty and VAT for on-trade venues would help pubs survive, protect jobs, support high streets and encourage people back into safe social spaces.
