Scrap the £40,000 incentive for failed asylum seekers to leave the UK
End the scheme offering up to £40,000 to failed asylum seekers to leave the UK. Instead, the Government should prioritise quicker processing of claims and ensure those whose applications are rejected are removed from the UK promptly once all legal appeals are exhausted.
Many people believe it is unfair to offer large financial incentives to individuals whose asylum claims have been refused, especially when UK citizens are facing rising living costs. Providing payments of this size risks undermining public confidence in the immigration system and could unintentionally encourage more people to attempt to come to the UK expecting financial support.
