Add legislation to stabilise fuel prices/prevent panic buying during shortages
We want the UK Government to introduce legislation allowing temporary action to stabilise fuel prices during supply disruptions or emergencies. This could include limits on rapid price increases and powers to intervene if supply or distribution is at risk, helping prevent panic buying and shortages.
Fuel price spikes and uncertainty about supply can lead to panic buying, which can quickly cause shortages at petrol stations. When this happens it affects not only drivers but also essential workers, emergency services, and businesses that rely on fuel. A legal mechanism to stabilise prices during disruptions could reduce panic buying, keep supply stable, and help ensure fuel remains accessible and affordable for everyone.
