Petition Action

Let secondary schools start later in the day.

Petition Details

Psychologists have proven that teenagers would benefit from schools starting later in the day and ending later in the day (I.e: start- 11:15 end- 5:25). Teenagers are more inclined to stay up later and wake up later, so schools starting early can wreak havoc on their natural need to stay up later.

Additional Information

For the wellbeing of the teenage population if the United Kingdom, and the future generations of this country. It would be a great help for mental health, and promoting a healthy relationship with school.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The Government only mandates number of hours a week and number of days a year a school has to operate for - it is up to schools to decide on the timetable for each school day (education is also devolved in NI).
