Preserve Churchill on the £5 Banknote
I want Parliament to preserve Winston Churchill on the £5 note under new or amended legal tender law.
While respecting the Bank of England’s operational independence, Parliament is sovereign and can legislate on the definition of legal tender for notes. I request it require Winston Churchill’s depiction be preserved on the £5 note to protect cultural and historical significance. Minor redesigns may be allowed, but new or amended statutory legislation could ensure the note’s symbolic heritage remains intact.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Bank notes are the responsibility of the Bank of England, which is independent of the Government and Parliament.
