Make Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha bank holidays
Millions of Muslims live in England and Wales and contribute to British society. We believe that recognising these important religious celebrations as bank holidays would promote inclusion, equality and respect for religious diversity.
Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha are the two most important religious celebrations for Muslims, similar in significance to Christmas and Easter for Christians. Recognising Eid as an official public holiday would allow Muslim families to celebrate their religious festivals without needing to take annual leave or miss school. It would promote fairness, inclusion, and respect for religious diversity in modern British society. The Government already recognises Christian holidays as bank holidays. Introducing Eid holidays would reflect the multicultural nature of the country and demonstrate equal recognition of major religious communities. Making Eid a public holiday would also strengthen community cohesion and understanding between different faith groups, helping to build a more inclusive society.
If you want to sign this petition (as opposed to merely discuss it), you need to do that on the government's e-Petitions website.
