Exempt all social care providers from employer NI contribution rise
We call on the Government to exempt all social care providers from the 2025 increase in employer National Insurance. We believe that as a result of this rise, the social care sector is now collapsing, and providers are closing weekly resulting in vulnerable people losing access to care.
Whilst local councils and the NHS are compensated for this rise in NI, social care providers delivering the many of the same service got nothing. Nuffield Trust put the additional cost to social care providers at £940 million. In our view, that money is not coming from shareholders it is coming from the frontline, meaning that staff are being cut and services are disappearing, and people who would choose care as a career cannot be hired because providers cannot afford them. We think this increase in tax is killing the sector the government claims to want to save.
