HMRC must be more transparent & accountable when its accounts are qualified
Require greater transparency when HMRC accounts are qualified by the National Audit Office, including: clear public explanations, independent review of internal controls & regular formal reports to Parliament on steps taken to reduce fraud, error & uncertainty in tax credits, reliefs & payments.
Taxpayers face strict penalties for errors, so the public expects the same high standards from HMRC. Repeated qualified accounts raise concerns about governance and oversight. Greater transparency would improve trust in the tax system and ensure proper accountability for public money.
