Petition Action

Restructure the UK Energy Market to Adopt the Norwegian Model of Resource Wealth

Petition Details

Adopt the Norwegian model: Establish a state-owned energy entity with equity in all North Sea projects. Legislate to decouple domestic prices from global markets, ensuring UK-extracted oil and gas is sold to UK households at a "cost-plus" social tariff to end fuel poverty and record-high bills.

Additional Information

We believe the UK is resource-rich, yet residents face record fuel poverty while oil giants report billions in profits. Norway, sharing the same North Sea, has a £1.3tn wealth fund and stable costs. We feel our current "free market" model fails us; we pay global prices for our own resources. The Government must stop prioritising private shareholders over national security. We believe transitioning to a Norwegian-style state equity model could ensure our natural wealth lowers domestic bills, not just corporate dividends.
