Cut Fuel Duty by the Amount of Extra VAT Gained During Rapid Fuel Increases
We believe that as was the case during the Ukraine invasion, the Government has delayed cutting fuel duty after a rapid increase in fuel cost, and that this impacts the UK economy and risks putting companies out of business.
When fuel price rises the Government gain extra money in VAT which we think should be used to cut fuel duty.
For example if prices rise by 35p, that means that there is an extra 7p in VAT for the government, so we think that by cutting fuel duty by 7p there is no financial impact. We believe by doing this the Government can limit the expected inflation increase that will come on the back of increased due fuel price increases, and can support hard working UK businesses and reduce the impact on product prices within the UK that are due to spike with this crisis. We think by not doing it, it is clear profiteering on the UK public during this time.
If you want to sign this petition (as opposed to merely discuss it), you need to do that on the government's e-Petitions website.
