Create a National Pet Health Service for veterinary care
Establish a National Pet Health Service to provide free or heavily subsidised basic and emergency veterinary care such as vaccinations, neutering, and life-saving surgery for all domestic pets in the UK.
Rising veterinary costs are making essential care unaffordable for many families, leading to preventable animal suffering, neglect, or forced euthanasia. Pets provide vital mental health support and reduce loneliness, yet the current private-only model treats healthcare as a luxury. A nationalised service could be funded through a dedicated "pet tax" or by nationalising specific parts of the veterinary sector to ensure no animal dies due to their owner’s financial situation
