Mandate First Aid Kits in all cars & defibrillators in cars listed over £49995
Make it a legal requirement for a first aid kit (meeting BS 8599-2) to be provided at the point of sale of all new cars and all used cars when sold through a motor trader, and a defibrillator to be fitted in new cars with a list price over £49995.
At the scene of a serious road traffic collision, another motorist is often the first person on scene. The Highway Code gives guidance on what to do in an emergency (Annex 7) and advises that motorists carry a first aid kit. First aid kits are mandatory in many EU countries but not yet in the UK. Single use "defibs" cost around £300 and could be cost-effective to fit in new cars with a list price over £49,995.
