Increase tax allowance to £15,000 for 80 yrs+ and remove 25p age addition

Petition Details

Raise the personal allowance at 80years to £15,000 and thereafter in line with inflation every 2 years. Abolish the 25p raise at 80 yrs. the weekly 25p has not increased with the cost of living since 1971 introduction. When it was roughly 4% of the £6 weekly pension.

Additional Information

Raising a frozen tax threshold aims at addressing financial pressures. The freezing has created a tax burden for many - e.g dragged into filling in a self assessment for first time because of small tax payments due to the freeze. A 15,000 threshold would protect many from this tax burden. Over Eighties face higher expenses related to health, care, and heating. An increased, tax-free threshold allows them to keep more of their income to cover these essentials. Not seeing it "vanish" to taxes.”
