Petition Action

Simplify tax compliance for sole traders and micro businesses

Petition Details

Introduce a simplified tax compliance system for sole traders and micro businesses, reduce bookkeeping and reporting requirements, and provide tax relief or allowances for mandatory compliance costs so civic duties remain proportionate and do not impose excessive unpaid administrative labour +costs.

Additional Information

Sole traders are forced to carry out unpaid tax compliance labour, absorb bookkeeping, software + reporting costs purely so HMRC can collect tax. It shifts government administrative burden onto individuals, reduces productive earning time, reduces real earnings below minimum wage. We believe the burden is regressive, hitting small businesses disproportionately as well as disabled self employed people with executive function difficulties. Civic duties shouldn't be disproportionate it harms business growth.
