Stop Discriminatory Motability Changes That Restrict Disabled People’s Mobility
The new Motability rules from July 2026 will restrict disabled people’s independence. They include a 30,000‑mile cap over 3 years, excess mileage rising from 5p to 25p, VAT and Insurance Premium Tax on leases, reduced tyre allowances, new admin fees, and fewer vehicles available.
These changes limit disabled people to around 27 miles a day, restricting access to work, hospital care, shopping, caring duties and social contact. Higher charges and new taxes increase costs despite disabled people already paying their full mobility benefit and often large advance payments. Non‑disabled drivers face none of these limits or penalties, creating unequal treatment and reducing disabled people’s independence and opportunities.
