Half the fuel excise duty during this period of instability in Middle East,
Immediately reduce fuel excise duty by 50% for six months. Simultaneously, the Government must implement stricter price monitoring and a temporary cap on fuel retail margins to ensure that this tax cut is passed directly to consumers at the pump rather than being absorbed as corporate profit.
Global instability should not result in record profits for energy firms while UK households suffer. Fuel duty cuts in the past have not always reached the public. By limiting profit margins during this crisis, the Government ensures that tax relief benefits the economy, lowers the cost of living, and prevents opportunistic price-gouging during a period of national financial strain.
