Petition Action

Revoke the BBC Royal Charter, abolish the TV Licence Fee & privatise the BBC

Petition Details

Abolish the mandatory TV licence fee and revoke the BBC’s Royal Charter. Legislate to transition the BBC into a private corporation, as they did with BBC Studio's. We believe the BBC should compete independently in the media market without state funding & Royal Charter rights, akin to BBC Studios.

Additional Information

We believe the BBC is no longer the trusted ‘backbone’ of Britain it once was, having been linked to multiple scandals and alleged cover-ups. This has driven boycotts and reduced willingness to pay the TV Licence amongst many, alongside the rise of cheaper, better streaming alternatives. In a digital, data-driven era, we feel government control of the airwaves to curb disinformation is outdated. Moreover, we believe it seems unjust that a licence is required for all live broadcasts when only the BBC is funded by the fee.
