Restore pre‑1998 treason penalties through the Crime and Disorder Act 1998.
We ask the Government to review & repeal the sections of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 that removed the previous maximum penalties for treason & piracy with violence, & consider restoring the earlier legal framework to strengthen the UK’s ability to respond to serious threats to national security.
We are concerned that current treason & national security laws may not adequately address modern threats, including politically‑motivated individuals & groups linked to extremist activity.
We believe the legal framework prior to the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 changes by Blair provided stronger deterrence & clearer consequences.
We ask Parliament to review & consider restoring those earlier penalties to ensure robust protection of the UK & maintain confidence in national security legislation.
