“Allow NHS clinical trials for treatment-resistant depression using psilocybin”
Permit and fund NHS-led clinical trials using psilocybin for treatment-resistant depression. Create a clear, regulated pathway for research approval and delivery within NHS settings, ensuring strict clinical oversight, patient safety, and ethical governance.
Treatment-resistant depression affects thousands in the UK who do not respond to existing therapies, placing a major burden on individuals, families, and the NHS. Early clinical studies suggest psilocybin-assisted therapy may offer significant benefits when delivered in controlled settings. Current regulations limit research. Allowing NHS-led trials would provide robust UK evidence, improve understanding, and explore safe, effective alternatives for those with limited options.
