Assess and act in response to Israel’s discriminatory death penalty law.
Publish a detailed legal assessment of Israel’s law, determine if it meets UK human rights sanctions thresholds, & set out what concrete actions will follow in response to a widely criticised, discriminatory death penalty law, including any sanctions, policy steps, or public accountability measures.
The law targets Palestinians under military courts while Israeli citizens are tried in civilian courts, creating a two-tier system of justice widely criticised as discriminatory. The UK has previously taken action in response to human rights violations in other contexts. This raises serious questions about consistency. Failure to act where thresholds are met would require clear justification and risks undermining confidence in the UK’s commitment to human rights and the rule of law.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
We’re not sure exactly what you mean by “human rights sanctions threshold”.
The UK Government has already called on Israel to abandon plans for the death penalty bill, and already deplores any failure to observe the relevant international standards, defined by the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights: www.gov.uk/government/news/joint-statement-on-israels-death-penalty-bill-29-march-2026
You could start a new petition calling for the UK Government to enact sanctions against Israel as a result of Israel’s new law.
