Abolish vehicle excise duty on battery electric vehicles
We want the Government to abolish vehicle excise duty on electric vehicles. My car emits 0 co2 and weighs 1345kg. My VED is £200 pa. My friend's petrol car emits 128 g/km co2 and weighs 2080kg. Her VED is £170. I do not know how this can be considered fair.
I believed the Government was trying to incentivise people to help industry and buyers. EVs are more expensive to buy, depreciation is much higher than ICE cars, and the public charging network is still not good enough, and in some cases more expensive than fossil fuel. We feel this needs to be addressed in the interests of fairness – it shouldn’t just be about gaining revenue.
If you want to sign this petition (as opposed to merely discuss it), you need to do that on the government's e-Petitions website.
