Help the UK economy manage fuel price shocks
Help the construction industry and the manufacturing, recycling and quarrying sectors that support it manage severe fuel price volatility by introducing a temporary sectoral fuel duty relief and reinstating red diesel use for plant machinery. These measures are vital to protect industry viability.
Rising fuel costs, driven by global instability, are placing unsustainable pressure on the construction industry and the sectors that support it. These are businesses that have already been impacted by the loss of red diesel, inflation and supply chain disruption. With no viable alternatives to diesel for heavy machinery, businesses risk contraction or closure. Targeted, temporary support would protect jobs, economic activity and progress toward a circular, low-carbon construction sector.
