Introduce a national pothole repair standard and a fair compensation system.
Introduce a legally binding national standard for pothole repairs, including maximum repair timeframes, consistent inspection requirements, and a simplified, fair compensation system for drivers whose vehicles are damaged by road defects.
Poor road conditions are causing widespread vehicle damage across the UK, including tyres, wheels, and suspension components. This is costing drivers hundreds of pounds per incident and creating avoidable safety risks.
Current maintenance and compensation systems vary between local authorities, are often slow, and place an unfair burden of proof on motorists. Many drivers are left paying for damage caused by poorly maintained roads.
A national standard would improve accountability, ensure timely repairs, reduce vehicle damage, and create a fair and consistent process for compensation.
