Support for small businesses with Statutory Sick Pay
The introduction of SSP from day one, alongside the removal of lower earnings limit, places a significant financial burden on employers. These changes expand the number of employees eligible for SSP, frequency and duration of payments, creating added pressure on cash flow and day-to-day operations.
The requirement to pay SSP from day one of absence, combined with the need to pay another employee or temporary cover to carry out the work, means that small businesses can often find themselves paying out significantly more per hour than they are actually generating in income. This creates an unsustainable financial strain. For small businesses with limited resources, this shift risks compounding existing financial challenges and reducing their ability to invest, grow,& maintain staffing levels
