Increase HMRC mileage rate from 45p to reflect real driving costs
Increase the 45p mileage rate as it no longer reflects real costs. Fuel, insurance, servicing and maintenance have all risen significantly. Many workers who drive for work are now left out of pocket as the rate has not kept pace with inflation.
The mileage rate is meant to cover all vehicle costs, not just fuel, but it is now too low. I drive for work four times per week and the allowance no longer covers fuel, maintenance or wear and tear. Many workers are effectively subsidising their jobs. A review is needed to reflect real costs and reduce financial pressure.
