Restore UK/EU pet travel by securing ‘Part 1’ status or ‘veterinary agreement’
The Government should urgently prioritise negotiations with the EU to secure ‘Part 1 listed’ status for the UK or agree a UK–EU veterinary agreement to restore simpler pet travel and remove the need for repeated Animal Health Certificates.
The UK is classified as a ‘Part 2 listed’ country, meaning pet passports cannot be used and a new (AHC) is required for each journey.
This creates repeated cost and unnecessary administration for routine travel and places UK residents at a disadvantage.
Given the UK’s high animal health standards and frequent travel with the EU, this approach is disproportionate.
The Government should prioritise securing ‘Part 1 listed’ status or a veterinary agreement to restore simpler arrangements.
