Introduce a public right to trigger a national vote of no confidence
Establish a legally binding mechanism allowing UK citizens to trigger a national vote of no confidence via public petition. If a specific signature threshold is met, the process forces an immediate parliamentary vote or a snap General Election to hold the sitting government accountable.
A Prime Minister can lose the public's trust midway through a term, leaving citizens without any democratic recourse until the next election. Currently, only MPs can trigger a vote of no confidence. This petition demands a constitutional change giving voters direct power. By establishing a secure, high-threshold petition system, the public could legally compel Parliament to hold a confidence vote. This strengthens British democracy and ensures the government remains accountable to the people.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
We're not sure what mechanism you'd like the Government or Parliament to create to trigger a general election.
You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do. Or you may wish to sign one of the following petitions.
