Stop The Visitor Taxes Across England’s Regions Destroy Tourism
The proposed introduction of a tourism or visitor levy like regions such as the East Midlands has raised growing concern among businesses, hospitality operators and regional employers who believe the timing could not be worse for the local economy.
The proposed East Midlands tourism tax risks harming hotels, restaurants, events, small businesses and local jobs at a time when hospitality is already under pressure. Adding extra costs for visitors could reduce tourism, weaken regional competitiveness and impact investment across the East Midlands. We believe any tourism levy should require full public consultation, economic transparency and public consent before being introduced.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
We can only accept petitions about things the Government or Parliament are directly responsible for.
Decisions about introducing a tourism tax are a matter for regional mayors, not the UK Government or Parliament. You could start a petition calling for the UK Government to remove the power for regional mayors to introduce tourism taxes, or to introduce a legal requirement for public consultation to take place before introducing the tax, if that's something that you'd like to see.
