Ditch single-use Animal Health Certificates (AHC) for lifelong pet passports.
The UK needs a practical solution for pet travel to the EU. One-off AHCs are both an unnecessary administrative duplication and a costly logistical burden to obtain. This affects holidaymakers, cross-border families, and those needing to travel frequently or at short notice with their pets.
The current scheme is expensive, restrictive and impractical requiring another visit to the vet within 10 days of every trip to the EU. Also, since 22nd April 2026, GB residents can no longer rely on previously accepted valid EU pet passports Leaving pets behind in kennels or with sitters can also be challenging to arrange, and is not an option for working dogs who need to travel.
The UK needs a simple and affordable multi-use travel document valid for as long as the pet meets the requirements.
