Newly qualified nurses deserve to be employed!
What hapenned to the government graduate scheme? Trusts are not hiring newly qualifieds and when the advertise that they will, everyone gets put on a reserve list in case a role becomes available in the next 6 months but at the same time advise us to look elsewhere.
We have worked three long hard years to obtain the nursing degree. There is apparantly a shortage of nurses yet there are no band 5 roles for newly qualifieds. Yet the same trusts still rely on agency and bank staff. Something we cannot do without 6 months experience. The government lie and boast about a graduate guarantee scheme - if trusts are not hiring how can they guatentee a role? 200 plus newly qualifieds will now be signing on to receive benefits in August 2026. Its backwards.
