Increase Personal Allowance from £12,570 to £18,125 in the UK
Increase the UK Personal Allowance from £12,570 to £18,125 to reflect rising wages and the increased cost of living. This would help low and middle-income earners keep more of their income and reduce financial pressure on working families.
In 2020, the National Minimum Wage was around £8.72 per hour and the Personal Allowance was about £12,500. By 2026, the minimum wage has risen to around £12.71 per hour — an increase of over 45% — while the Personal Allowance remains almost frozen at £12,570. Meanwhile, rent, mortgages, childcare, transport, food, and energy costs have risen sharply. If the allowance had increased in line with wages, it would now be around £18,125, helping working people keep more of their earnings.
