Scrap the 33 London Boroughs
London is city of 7.8 million people and has 33 boroughs. New York is a city with slightly more people and has only five boroughs. Having so many local authorities in London is wasteful, inefficient and illogical. We would like the government to reform local government in London by:
1) scrapping the 33 boroughs and set up smaller ‘neighbourhood councils’, with similar powers to parish councils elsewhere in the country;
2) give the Greater London Authority all borough powers and assets; and
3) expanding the London Assembly to 65 members and give it greater powers to hold the Mayor to account.
