Petition Action

Stop silent calls

Additional Information

We the undersigned are fed up of picking up the phone and no one been on the other end.

Unfortunately, TPS (Telephone Preference Service) can not stop these as most originate from outside the UK. Also, the majority come up as Private under caller ID and so can not be reported.

We acknowledge telemarketing calls can not be stopped completely, but action must be taken to ensure an automated message or person must be available to pick up all calls made by automated diallers.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

There's already a petition about this issue. We cannot accept a new petition when we already have one about a very similar issue.

You are more likely to get action on this issue if you sign and share a single petition.

There is an e-petition already live which proposes that people should have to 'opt-in' to receive calls. Should you feel this does not cover your suggestion, please re-submit.
