Convicted rioters should help rebuild and repair
Removing benefits from convicted rioters would be unfair in that it cannot be applied to all, or equally. A better solution would be that, as part of or in addition to any other punishment, convicted rioters must do some form of community service or equivalent which would involve repairing the damage they have caused. This would be more constructive for all, and less likely to cause re-offence.
