Convicted London rioters to lose benefits is absurd
The idea that any person receiving benefits who is convicted for their actions during civil disorder should lose their entitlement to state benefits is utterly ridiculous, poorly thought through and worryingly short-sighted.
It creates further divides and excuses not to create any dialogues across these divides.
It does not address the particular relations which some people have with authority, goods and the economy.
The motion only serves to discriminate against the poor and further distort public conceptions to legitimise legal practices which would exacerbate inequality, social division and the total breakdown political agency we are witnessing presently.
