Petition Action

Convicted UK rioters should not lose all benefits

Additional Information

Do not remove benefits from convicted rioters.

We, the undersigned, realise that removing the benefits from convicted rioters will lead to more crime and not less. Homeless and hungry people are surely *more* likely to commit crime.

This petition is a direct response against the petition “Convicted London rioters should loose all benefits.” (http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/7337), which has already had over 100,000 signatures and is therefore eligible for debate in the House of Commons.

That petition was mentioned in Parliament by several MPs today (11th August 2011) during discussions about the riots, so some of them are taking it seriously. Let’s show them that most of realise that this is a complex issue and that removing convicted rioters’ benefits will not help.

Let’s get more signatures for this petition and make that “debate” in the House of Commons a short or unnecessary one, and avoid wasting everyone’s time.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

There's already a petition about this issue. We cannot accept a new petition when we already have one about a very similar issue.

You are more likely to get action on this issue if you sign and share a single petition.
